I was drawn into Laney and Evans story and was happy when they finally got together right before prom. It was like the classic fairytale but with a tragic ending. I can honestly say I did not understand her reason for the break-up before going to college but related on a personal level because I was Laney years ago.
Evan was TRUE about his feelings from the beginning and I adored him and his perseverance to be with the woman of his dreams. He did everything to make things right even down routing his life and transferring schools with no scholarship or anything. To get there and come head to head with his worse fears. He never claimed to be a saint but never gave his heart or soul to another in hopes of being with his one true love.
Laney was swept off her feet by the attention of feeling lonely in a new place. Battling emotional decisions drove her in the arms of the man that can show her the world and gave it without second thought. Giving less thought to the man who has been by her side from the beginning and vowed his LOVE for her with no ending in sight.
Never backing down from a challenge of getting what he want the sexy Dane set out on a mission to WIN her heart and never let her go. Laney had a choice to either embrace the new her or remain the person she was before and stay with what was comfortable. I was NOT happy at all with her choice because in reality Evan never had a fighting chance. In my opinion Dane should have backed off when he saw the push and pull of Laney's emotions.
I am awaiting book 2 because Evan needs to find his HEA because his PLAN A although very heart felt was an epic fail. He has so much love to give to that special deserving someone. The author did a wonderful job in the YA. The emotional back and forth of growing up and spreading your wings when going to college is what many experience.
Laney Walker is a quick witted, athletic, southern tomboy who lets few get too close, using her sarcastic zingers to deflect. She also has no idea how others view her since Evan, her best friend, has coveted her since they were children. But college puts a gap between Laney and Evan that neither of them were prepared for- old relationships are tested, new ones are formed and nothing will ever be the same.
Especially when in walks one Dane Kendrick, not at all the familiar, southern charmer of home, but an animal all his own.
A story of growing up, friendship, loyalty, first love, primal love...and life.
