ARC review for Reading by the Book
I have been following this series since the beginning and it has had me on a journey like no other with the make shift family. This book is NO different. I know I was among the many that lost all respect for Alethea in book 5 but the title holds true to the story line. I couldn't wait to get into the head of the vixen that everyone loved to hate but the truth that was revealed was totally unexpected. Holding on to the demons of not being able to stop a death or thinking you were the cause can carry a heavy burden and that is what drove Alethea to the person she was. Protecting what and who she loved at ALL cost and not caring if she lived or died in the end.
Marc Stoned cared though and made it his mission to prove to her that you were stronger as a unit than facing obstacles alone and head on. That putting trust in others does not make you the weaker person but human for accepting help. It wasn't an easy task but together along with the "family" she was willing to let go Alethea learned that, "if you're not with someone who genuinely cares about you, it is possible to be with someone and still be alone." I laughed, cried, and was at the edge of my seat from beginning to end.
This story held SO meaning it was hard not to lose sight of what the series was all about, "we are always better together". No matter the distance that separated them when they were needed the clan we have come to love delivered and with the comic relief of Jake, Dom, and Lil..... I hate to see it end but is grateful for the bound that was formed from letting go of the past and admitting that your were an asshole (in my Dominic voice) and moving on to the future. Thank You Ruth for the BEST IN THE SERIES, MUST READ...
